JV

Starting play against Ripon Christian on Tuesday, Aug. 30, the JV Lady Cougars once again fought tough but fell short, losing in three sets.

“They’re a good team and they challenge us,” said coach Shay Beam. “I wish we could have come out on top.”

Scores were 25-15, 22-25, 13-15.

Madyson Herrera had eight aces and nine kills, she and libero Natalie Giuntoli each had eight digs. Karisa McNeil had 23 assists and Marissa Terry added a block.

“Wednesday we traveled to Modesto to play Enochs,” Beam said, with her team dropping the first set 23-25. “We made some mistakes but rallied back in game two to win 25-11. I had hoped we would go into game three with momentum from the last set but we made too many mistakes early on and lost 13-15.”

Chloe Fraser had four kills and seven digs while Herrera added seven kills and four digs. McNeil contributed 17 assists.

Thursday, they closed out the busy week on the road with a match at Orestimba.

“We came out slow and lost the first set 23-25 but we cleaned it up in game two and three winning 25-18 and 15-6,” Beam said of getting the victory.

Herrera had 12 kills, four aces and eight digs; McNeil 14 assists, six digs and two kills; Fraser seven kills.

“After a long week on the road I’m holding we can go into league with a hunger to compete and work hard,” Beam said.
