Third WAC Win For Varsity Flag Football
COUGAR

Firmly settled in to the Western Athletic Conference schedule, Escalon’s varsity Flag Football girls were on the road this past week.

They traveled to square off with Mountain House in action Thursday, Oct. 5.

“We really played our best game in a few weeks and walked away 21-0 winners,” said head coach Steve Largent. “Our defense really did a great job all night rallying to the ball and pulling flags.”

Andrea Fuentes-Calderon led the team with eight tackles; Alyssa Ball had seven. Saraii Correa Vega and Violette Kent both added one interception each.

“Ashley Titsworth ad Hannah Wampler also flew around on defense, making it tough for the Mustangs,” added Largent. “Aileen Aguirre led the offense with her QB play and hit Zoey Baracosa for the game-sealing touchdown late in the game.”

The team also found their groove in the run game, Largent added, and rushed for 170 total yards as a team.

“Jasmine Barron, Sammy Lang, Valentine Ramirez and Isabeli Velazquez all ran with a purpose, leading the ground attack,” the coach noted.

The varsity girls are now 16-4 overall and 3-1 in the WAC.

“We travel to Newman this week and have a very important league game against the Orestimba Warriors, who are also 3-1 in WAC play,” Largent said.

The JV and varsity girls are both scheduled to take on Orestimba, in action Thursday, Oct. 12.
