Escalon's volleyball girls have been on the road a couple of times already this season, first participating in a Saturday scrimmage at Golden Valley in Merced, then heading to Linden for a preseason match.
The Golden Valley meet was on Aug. 23 and featured a timed event against each team the Lady Cougars faced in the scrimmage format. There were no actual games, the teams just kept score for the duration of the scrimmage and all three squads, the freshmen, JV and varsity, got in some solid work during their first action against other teams.
On Thursday, Aug. 28, the teams headed to nearby Linden and took two out of three from the Lions.
The varsity girls won by a 3-1 decision, coached again this season by Teresa Williamson. Leaders in the contest were Kaitlyn Brayton with 26 kills and 32 digs; Katie Aprile with 35 assists; Amanda Franklin with three aces. The varsity scores were 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16.
